Parcae nervi
or: "the strings of fate"
The Parcae Universe contains a world that mirrors our own, except in Parcae, magic exists. Religion and science have both tried to explain the existence of magic and where it comes from and to this day, there's still no true explanation. Some believe it's God. Some believe it's Mother Nature. Some really don't give a shit and would rather actually use the magic than spend their time contemplating its existence. So magic exists, which means magical creatures also exist. Gargoyles, fairies, nymphs, etc. There are too many to list and in this universe, everything is possible. We highly encourage world-building so if you want to throw in a goddamn basilisk into your RP, go right ahead!
Even though the Earth contains a plethora of magic and its origins are unknown, one thing is certain: it is tied in with nature. Magic flourishes on ground untouched by innovation and technology. Forests brim with supernatural creatures that many humans deem primitive, but most of the nature-dwellers are well-versed in the language of magic and are effective magic users in their own right.
So yes, magic can be used. Right now, we have two species playable on Parcae that can use magic: humans and Fair Folk. Human magic is typically more precise in nature, split into various studies that one works to master. Fair Folk, on the other hand, never severed their ties to nature in favor of technology and innovation (well, most haven't. There's always the exception...) and they usually have a wider range of skills and practices, most of which have to do with nature and the elements.
When the first civilizations came around, human innovations advanced tremendously. They managed to learn how to make magic coexist with technology and, since magic is an energy that constantly flows and shifts, it adapted. It was only when humans began to take more and leave less that the Fair Folk began to have a problem. Many rebellions plagued 18th century history until a sudden shift in magic caused both sides to come together and form a truce.
Still, even though a truce between the humans and the Fair Folk still stands, the current times reflect the old and, as the saying goes, history repeats itself. The Fair Folk are tired of hiding in the Underground, of having their forests demolished and their homes destroyed. They are tired of watching magic being abused and are waiting for the right moment to take back what was once theirs.
In Parcae's current state, we have two boards open for players: New York and Kentucky. In New York, there are 4 main sub-boards: Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn, and The Underground. General life in each area is described in a summary under the sub-board title. While New York is more segregated in terms of species and tensions between all of them are close to explosive, Kentucky is a little bit more relaxed. In this part of the world, werewolves dominate and have learned to live alongside humans; Fair Folk live peacefully in forests protected both by State law and magical wards. Humans have learned to coexist with these beings and generally, they are a much more open-minded people than those in New York.
