Most people try to ignore the obvious play on the Cassidy name as they enjoy the diner's fatty continental breakfasts and cheap coffee while the owner, Anna Álvarez, glares from over the counter at any of her werewolf patrons. Although not openly vocal of her distaste for wolven, deals and sales at the diner always seem to happen on full moons and her vegetarian menu is seemingly endless.
The Cassidys only tolerate her because she pays her rent on time and has never caused outright trouble, but still, tensions are brewing.

Outside of Magic City the concentration of non-humans fades steeply into farmland owned by humans fiercely loyal to the anti-magic movement. They despise their downworlder neighbours and turf wars and feuds are an unhappy day-to-day occurrence.
With the police on the side of the humans and the Cassidy clan on the side of the downworlders, the two have reached an precarious stalemate.
An local knows that downworlders are only tolerated so long as their passage is swift and transient, and the humans know better than to speak their concerns out loud.
The Outskirts are neutral ground, but it exists only with a great deal of mumbled slurs and gritted teeth.
